Interactive Massachusetts Broadband Map - PUBLIC BETA
The public beta version of the Massachusetts Broadband Map is part of an ongoing program to accurately map fixed broadband availability for each home, business and other serviceable locations in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It shows individual broadband serviceable locations throughout the Commonwealth that are unserved or underserved.
The development of accurate broadband coverage maps is an iterative process and will continue to be improved, updated and validated over time. The development and release of the public beta version of the Massachusetts Broadband Map is an initial step in this process. MBI will work with service providers on an ongoing basis to review and validate coverage data, including identifying areas that require further analysis, and will periodically release updated versions.
Massachusetts Broadband Serviceable Location Data
In October 2022, MBI completed development of the first statewide Broadband Serviceable Location (BSL) dataset to support broadband mapping and analysis in Massachusetts. BSLs are locations where wired (e.g., cable or fiber) or fixed wireless broadband service can or has been installed.
The BSL data consists of unique records for each address point and the associated address. Each point is located on the largest, most complex building (identified as the primary building) and the associated address record contains unit counts for locations that have more than one unit.
The BSL data is derived from the state Master Address Database (MAD) maintained by MassGIS and the City of Boston’s Street Address Management (SAM) data and will continue to be updated and improved. The MAD is Next Generation 911 (NG911) street address data maintained by through a joint agreement with State 9-1-1 and partnerships with all MA cities and towns.

The BSL data is available in ESRI file geodatabase (.gdb) and comma delimited (.csv) formats. A file with field descriptions is included with each download.

Last Mile Maps & Data
Maps related to the MBI's Last Mile programs for "unserved" and "underserved" towns in the MassBroadband 123 network footprint. "Unserved" towns do not have cable, fiber-optic, or other internet services that meet the FCC minimum requirement speeds of 25 Mbps downstream & 3 Mbps upstream. "Underserved" towns have cable broadband services with less than 96% cable penetration rates.
The Commonwealth’s Last Mile program is connecting unserved and underserved municipalities in Western and Central Massachusetts to 21st-century high-speed internet. Of the 53 Last Mile communities, 40 towns have completed projects and an additional 10 municipalities have some premises lit but are not fully complete.
MAP: Last Mile Broadband Projects: Project Status, May 1, 2022 (310 KB)
Map representing the status of last mile broadband projects. Towns in the MassBroadband123 service area that were considered "unserved" and "underserved" by broadband qualified for last mile broadband funding support from the Commonwealth. The map differentiates towns according to four categories: (1) towns with fully complete and operational networks, (2) towns with partially operational networks that are still in construction, (3) remaining last mile towns to be completed, and (4) previously served towns not included in the program.
MAP: Last Mile Broadband Projects: Project Partners, May 1, 2022 (310 KB)
Map of project partners and pathways chosen to construct broadband networks in last mile program towns. Towns in the MassBroadband123 service area that were considered "unserved" and "underserved" by broadband qualified for last mile broadband funding support from the Commonwealth.
HISTORIC DATA: Last Mile Premises and Related Data, February 2017
Premises data and other data relevant to the planning and implementation of the last mile broadband program. Data include served and unserved premises, parcel and town boundaries, roads, DCR fire towers, and the MassBroadband123 network. Data are available for download in multiple formats: KMZ format for viewing in Google Earth, Shapefile format for use with CAD or GIS software, file geodatabase format for use with ArcGIS, or Excel format for non-spatial use.
- Browse and download the data files
- View the readme file containing descriptions of the datasets.
- Free Google Earth software is required to open the KMZ file.
HISTORIC MAP: MassBroadband123 Towns by Broadband Availability, July 1, 2015 (3.5 MB)
Map of towns in the MassBroadband123 service area that were considered "unserved" by broadband prior to the implementation of the last mile programs because they did not have cable, fiber-optic, or other internet services that met the FCC minimum requirement speeds of 25 Mbps downstream & 3 Mbps upstream. The map differentiates the unserved towns by the type of infrastructure that was present in the towns at that time and is overlaid by the MassBroadband123 network fiber-optic cable and points of interconnection locations.
HISTORIC MAP: MassBroadband123 Underserved Cable Broadband Towns, July 1, 2015 (3.5 MB)
Map of towns in the MassBroadband123 service area that have cable broadband service, but were considered "underserved" prior to the implementation of the broadband extension program because they had less than 96% cable penetration rates. The towns are overlaid by the MassBroadband123 network fiber-optic cable and points of interconnection locations.

Statewide Broadband Availability Maps & Data (2010 - 2014)
Maps depicting estimated broadband services available throughout Massachusetts, as reported by existing broadband service providers. The data used to create these maps was collected as part of a broadband mapping grant program funded by the National Telecommunications & Information Administration (NTIA) that ended in January 2015.
