BTOP Q2-2012 Summary of Activities

April 1 - June 30, 2012

  • Executed 16 Points of Interconnection license agreements for a total of 21 to date.
  • Executed co-location license agreements for regeneration sites in Boston and Cambridge.
  • Submitted applications for 800 poles, for a total of 36,400 poles to date.
  • Submitted applications for 5 miles of conduit, for a total of 40 miles of conduit.
  • Received cost estimates on 4,000 poles for Verizon and 8,500 poles for electric companies, for totals to date of 29,800 from Verizon and 28,300 from electric companies.
  • Received 7,784 pole licenses for Verizon for a total of 9,866 licenses and 6,961 for the electric utilities for a total of 9,046 licenses..
  • Released 180 fully-licensed fiber miles to construction for aerial installation. Installed 93 miles of strand and 60 miles of fiber in licensed project areas for a total of 118 strand miles and 68 fiber miles to date.
  • Completed site surveys of 58 Community Anchor Institution locations to total 895 to date.
  • Completed designs for 156 Community Anchor Institution locations for a total of 571 to date.
  • Completed 213 Community Anchor Institution site installations for a total of 295 site installations to date.
  • Completed designs on 8 Points of Interconnection sites for a total of 16 to date.
  • Completed 1 Point of Interconnection site installation.
  • Completed construction drawings for 6 segments to total 13 for the project to date.
  • Approved lab prototype test plan and results.
  • Executed 2 Letters of Intent with Internet Service Providers, for a total of 22 to date.
  • Held 4 Community Anchor Institution informational sessions to educate the decision makers on advanced uses of the fiber network.
  • Attended NTIA Workshop in DC.
