BTOP Q3-2011 Summary of Activities

July 1 - September 30, 2011

  1. Executed contract with Design Builder for complete final design and construction of the MassBroadband 123 network.
  2. Completed execution of required Memorandums of Understanding for pole data collection with municipal pole owners.
  3. Executed pole attachment agreements with Templeton Light & Water and Chester Electric; actively negotiating pole attachment agreements in towns of Fitchburg, Lunenberg, and Granby.
  4. Continued field data collection, received data for over 21,000 poles during the quarter, out of a total of over 33,500 poles for the project thus far; 88% of poles in the network footprint have been delivered.
  5. Continued submitting applications for pole and conduit licenses. Submitted applications for over 14,000 poles and 14 miles of conduit. Project totals now exceed
  6. 20,600 poles and 24 miles of conduit.
  7. Continued make ready reconciliation with Verizon, Western Massachusetts Electric Company and National Grid. Received Verizon cost estimates for 8,200 poles and
  8. electric company make ready costs for 4,200 poles.
  9. Received first pole licenses from Verizon for 54 poles, Western Massachusetts Electric Company for 19 poles, and National Grid for 115 poles
  10. Prepared filings for environmental permits, Massachusetts Department of Transportation permits, and submitted first applications for railroad crossings.
  11. Completed license form for negotiation with owners of interconnection facilities.
  12. Completed site visits and surveys of 390 community anchor institution sites and 12 points of interconnection, and conducted outreach calls to community representatives.
  13. Completed fiber design diagrams for 5 of 7 project phases.
  14. Placed initial set of orders for fiber optic cable for 2.3 million feet.
  15. Executed four (4) Letters of Intent with Service Providers for providing services on the MassBroadband 123 network.
